Just A Little Rant

I read a lot of Blogs, too many probably, but I love seeing what everyone else it up to.

I don’t mean to  complain but there are a few things that really bug me.  So if you don’t want to hear about what bugs me just delete this post now, but PLEASE come back tomorrow.  I promise it will be out of my system.

First of all, just like all of you, I love to receive comments.  I also like to reply to your comments, unfortunately many of you are still set to no-reply.  This is really a very simple fix.  Here’s is a very good explanation of how to do it.  http://www.sweetsimplicityblog.com/2009/08/noreplyblogger.html.  I admit I don’t leave as many comments as I should and I’m working at improving, want to join me?

Like many of you I often use Google Reader to read blogs, but I love  using the “next” feature offered by Google Reader so that I read your blog on-line as it was meant to be read with all the bells and whistles showing.   Unfortunately, I think some of you spend a lot of time designing your blog but then fail to go read you own blog posts as they appear to others.  My eyes aren’t getting any younger and some of the blogs have been played with so much that the fonts are either too weird or there’s not enough contrast with the background to be able to read it with mature eyes.

Periodically we all need to check the links we have posted on our sidebars.  I haven’t been very good about this and sure enough I was guilty of having some that for some reason no longer worked.  I’ve fixed mine (I think), please check yours.

Black backgrounds – OK so this one doesn’t bother me but I know someone that refuses to read a blog that uses black as a background.  For instance Blogging Project Runway has a black background and she hates it.  I don’t think she’s alone.

Headers – When is big too big?  If I need to scroll down just to get past the header, maybe it’s too big.  That’s just me but I like to start reading right away.

That’s it, I feel better now that it’s out of my system.

Here’s a picture that has nothing to do with this post but what’s a post without a picture?

  3. We have almost the same pet peeves. I have several blogs and look at the, to see what others see. I do have a black background on my photo blog, but I discussed it with my blog designer, who is also my daughter and we decided to keep it, because it's about the photos and has few words.

  6. Um, the photo should have been larger...yeah, I totally agree with you about the blogs. I like quilting blogs, and some are so "busy" that it's distracting.
I agree about the headers too. some come out filling the page before I even see anything.
I agree about the colours. Black is out for me as I just can't read it.
Oh, I feel better now too!

  7. Great post. I agree with you 100%. Please feel free to give me direct feedback, as I do value your opinion. I agree on the header perspective and currently trying to work on it (long story. but hope to do so).

I hope more bloggers will blog about no reply bloggers. I'm happy so many new bloggers/followers are joining the fun, but default settings often leave these people in the no reply state. I do have some screen captures on my giveaway page. Feel free to use them, if you want to ever add more insights.

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. I love knowing that I'm not alone, blogging into thin air.
