Grandma’s Kitchen–Block 10/25

This morning Pat Sloan posted the latest block in her Grandma’s Kitchen block of the week, recipe box.  Once again it is a fun, fairly simple block but oh what fun it is to anticipate what it will be and finally getting to make it on Wednesdays.

Here’s mine this week.

I also made some “bonus” half square triangles.  See them at the bottom of the picture?

I have no idea if I’ll actually use the little bonus pieces but I’ll hold on to them and maybe I can find a home for them when the time comes.

Can’t wait until next week to see what Pat has planned for us.

Design Wall Monday–August 28, 2016

My-oh-my, where has the month gone?  I can’t believe it’s the last week of August already.  Along with working on my Pat Sloan, Grandma’s Kitchen blocks I’ve continued to work on a few other projects.
My Grammy blocks are growing.  These are on one of my design walls and although they are made, they have not been trimmed yet.

I now have a total of 10 blocks made.  I’m not sure how many I’ll make but I’ll slowly continue making them until I decide I have enough.
The other project on my other design wall is a “A Quartered Stripes” quilt.  These quilts have been around for a very long time but Jenny from Missouri Star Quilts has a very good YouTube video to show how it is done.  You can check it out here
This is just 16 of my blocks.  I already have an additional 16 blocks made (and trimmed) and I still need to cut the last 16 blocks and sew them together.  My finished quilt will have 48 blocks.

I recently made another one and it’s at the long arm quilter.

This is such a fun way to use stripes.
The last little project is luggage tags.  I have a trip coming up with my husband, daughter and the youngest granddaughter to NYC.  I have some very cute New York fabric so I’m going to make us each new luggage tags.  This is the sample I made yesterday.  I think it will work just fine so now it’s time to make the “real thing”.

Have a great week everyone and keep on sewing.

Grandma’s Kitchen–Block 9 - 25

We’re over 1/3 of the way there and I’m still having just as much fun as I did the first week.  Last week we did a little applique but this week we’re back to regular piecing with “The Kitchen Window” as the block.  I put flowers in my window.

I’m having such a great time making my blocks and can hardly wait until next week.  Don’t forget, it’s not to late to join in with Pat Sloan.  Simply google her and find all kinds of wonderful things she is doing.

Design Wall Monday–August 21, 2017

I belong to a friendship group, The Cotton Patchers.  Each year we do a block exchange.  I think I’ve posted about it in the past but last week was the first time I was late making a block for one of the members.  She had selected a particular house block but for some reason I just wasn’t entirely sure what she actually wanted.  So I showed up last week with a few other blocks that were due but I had to tell her I was going to be late making hers.  As it turned out I wasn’t the only one that wasn’t sure but after seeing some of the blocks that were made, I was able to come home and complete a block that I hope she will like and a block that I really, really like.  Here it is Christy, I’ll deliver it soon.

For those that have been to my home you already know that I have a double, red front door, a quilting hanging on the door and we have an umbrella that is prominent on our front patio.  My home doesn’t look exactly like this but it definitely has some important elements.

After procrastinating it is finished and ready to go to it’s new home.

Grandma’s Kitchen Block 8 - 25

This week the block is a very cute applique block.  I had fun picking the fabric and making the block.  BTW, I have no idea if my either of my Grandma’s wore an apron (they probably did) but I have several aprons and wear them all the time.  Of course my aprons are “full coverage” aprons, I’m not the neatest cook.

Can’t wait to see what next week’s block will be.  Check out Pat Sloan’s blog if you’d like to join along.

Design Wall Monday–August 18, 2017

I spent most of last week attending the Quilters by the Sea annual quilt retreat in Temecula, CA.  I can’t begin to tell you how much I look forward to spending time with all these wonderful women.  I spent a lot of time visiting but I actually had a little time for sewing.  I’ll post pictures of some of my projects later this week but in the mean time I thought I’d share my on-going project.

I’m made these blocks in the past but I continue to tweak my process.  Hopefully I’ll be teaching this next year for my Vegas trip next July.

Grandma’s Kitchen–Block–7/25

I’m at a retreat in Temecula, CA this week but I had time to grab some fabric as I rushed out the door this morning.  So the first thing I did after getting all set up for several days of sewing I made my Block 7.  Here it is.

I’m really enjoying this whole process.

Grandma’s Kitchen–Block 6 - 25

Block 6 was released this morning.  I am so enjoying this.  I think it’s probably as much about the fabric as it is the idea “Grandma’s Kitchen”.  Both of my Grandma’s passed away when I was very young.  I remember them from pictures but not so much from actual memories.

One of my main goals at this point in my live is for my Grandchildren to have fond memories not only of me but also our time in the kitchen together.  I think I’m doing a pretty darn good job of that.

The block is called Wash Day.  I remember wash day with my Mom.  I think it was Monday’s and Tuesday was ironing day.  For me, wash day works for the bedding (typically Friday) but our clothes get washed whenever.

Here we go…………………Block 6.

And here are all 6 on my design wall.

Don’t you just love them?
