Now What?

I have 20 house blocks made but now what?  It definitely needs sashing of some kind.  Should I twist and turn them? If so, with what?  Then add sashing?  Too many decisions.

I’ll set it 4 across and 5 down but they fit on the design wall this way.

Easily Distracted

I am so easily distracted that it’s almost embarrassing, not quite but almost.

I’m suppose to be sewing together my green and pink half square triangle quilt.

IMG_5831

I started doing it, really I did.

IMG_5896

See, there they are partially sewn together.  Instead I decided to make just 1 house block.  That was yesterday and so far I’ve made 6 of them.

IMG_5897

What can I say………I guess I get bored easily.  I really am going to get back to sewing the half-square triangles together but in between I think I’ll continue making houses.

After some self analysis I’ve decided there are certain processes that I like more than others.  I really enjoy laying out each of the blocks on a design board, stacking up a few boards and then sitting down and sewing them together.  It’s a similar process to when I made all the Great Granny blocks and the In and Out blocks, what can I say, I just really like it.

So I will continue to make house blocks but at the same time go back to finishing up the half-square triangle quilt.

Enjoy,

Design Wall Tuesday–May 14, 2013

I’m a day late for my Design Wall Monday but I finally got something up on my design wall.

IMG_5895

One lonely little house without a neighborhood………so far.  My sister Melinda is teaching Bonnie Hunter’s Happy Scrappy House this summer when we head to Las Vegas for our annual trip.  If you’d like to see Melinda’s (she has a whole neighborhood) head on over to her blog here

Now I’m heading back to my sewing room and make myself a next door neighbor.

Ready for Binding

I picked this up from Sue, my long arm quilter, this morning.  Now it’s time to get the binding and label on and then decide what to do with it.

Another Pickles Cartoon

I’ve always said my idea of roughing it is staying in a hotel without room service.  Now that I see this cartoon, this also describes my idea of how to go camping.

I really need to get back to sewing……..

Design Wall–May 6, 2013

Not much has changed around here.  Although this picture shows my design wall on my floor it’s actually picked up and sitting next to the sewing machine waiting for me to start sewing it together.

A Music Stand Case

I know I’ve share before that I’m learning to play the ukulele.  This week several of us are going to attend a ukulele group that plays together twice a month.  I knew I would need a music stand so I recently purchased and inexpensive, collapsible one, but once I got it home I discovered it didn’t come with a carrying case.  So what’s a person to do?  Make one of course

IMG_5846

IMG_5845

It’s certainly nothing fancy but at least it contains all the pieces and has a handle to carry it.  Now if I could just get better at playing that darn ukulele I’d be a happy camper.

A Day of Shopping and Assembly

Today my BFF Marilyn and I went shopping.  Silly us, we both need new winter bathrobes so we decided to go shopping.  Well needles to say we are well on our way to summer so there was not a single winter robe in the stores, much less in the style we were both looking for.  I did manage to find a new summer robe, complete with zipper down the front so all was not lost.

Although robes were our primary mission we “needed” to go to Ikea also.  Marilyn bought a few things but look what I got.

IMG_5844

It’s a rolling cart that I’m going to use in my sewing room.  It reminds me of the cart hair stylist use to keep all their supplies in.  I think it will be perfect to contain a lot of the little things that are laying all over my room.  It took a while to get it assembled, so hopefully tomorrow I can start filling it up.  Have I mentioned lately, I love Ikea.

I Love “Pickles”

No, not the kind you eat (although I like them just fine) I mean the comic strip “Pickles”.  Did you know there’s even a Facebook page for “Pickles”.  You can find it here.  Not only do I read the comic strip each morning on Facebook but I then read it again in my local newspaper.  They just crack me up and yes, many times I can relate to what they are up to.

When I saw that there is “Pickles” fabric I had to suspend my “no fabric buying” commitment.  So this week in my stash report you will see a + 1 2/3 yards.  But it’s worth it. Here’s the two pieces of fabric.

IMG_5841

And close-ups.

I have not idea what I’m going to make with it.  Any suggestions?

Get it Done–May, 2013

I managed to accomplish quite a few thing during the month of April but not necessarily what I listed at the beginning of the month.  Here we go with an April recap.

1.  Finish, once and for all, that *@#% mystery quilt.  Here it is sitting next to my sewing machine, ready to go under the needle.

After a lot of issues quilting this quilt it finally was finished and turned in to my guild so that it can be given to charity.

2. Now that my Mock Hidden Wells quilt top is finished.  I need to get the back pieced together and the binding ready.  This one is probably going to my friend Sue to be quilted.

The back was pieced and the guilt was delivered to Sue last week.  She’s been gone so it may be a while until I get it back.

3.  My Scrappy Trips Around the world is completed and the binding is sewn on to the front.  I need to finish the hand sewing of the binding.

Confused smileStill sitting here starring at me waiting for me to hand sew the binding down.  It will now move to the May list.

4. I’ve had this Hidden Wells Quilt cut out for a while.  My plan for April is to start sewing the strip sets together.  I probably won’t complete the top but at least I can get it further along.

Disappointed smileI had good intentions with this one but what can I say………It didn’t happen.  Another one moving to the May list.

Now on to my May “Get it Done” list.

1.  My Scrappy Trips Around the world is completed and the binding is sewn on to the front.  I need to finish the hand sewing of the binding.  And I really mean it this time.

3.  I brought another charity quilt home with me the other day that needs to be quilted.   This one was started by my friend Margie before she passed away last year.  I like to think she’ll be watching over me  (and my Brother sewing machine) as we finish this one up for her.
