Design Wall Monday–January 7, 2013

Not exactly a design wall but I thought I’d share with you my 2013, take along hand project.  This is the front of the box that contains precut hexagons and detailed assembly directions.

Here’s the contents all spread out on my living room floor. IMG_5439

I knew right away that I would have to reorganize all those little baggies into rows so that I could easily take the project with me.  That took way longer than I though but I managed to get it finished.  I did find one error on the paperwork but everything is good now.  If you purchased this kit, give me a shout out and I’ll send you the minor correction (it will save you some time and frustration).  Here they are all organized into little baggies labeled with the row number.

Don’t you love my Vera Bradley makeup case that I’m using to keep things contained while I travel.

Stash Report–Week 1–January 6, 2013

I’ll get to my stash report in a minute but first an update from yesterday (and yes, it did decrease my stash).  After several people told me I should definitely box my 8 “Click-it” bags I did.  In my heart I knew I would, I think I just wanted to be finished.  In reality it only took me a few minutes to do all 8 of them.  Here’s the end result.

They are now packed away and ready for our trip,

OK so back to my “Stash Report”.  I’m not even going to attempt to figure out how much I have in my stash, so I’m going to start the year at zero and work towards decreasing it throughout the year.

Used this Week: 4.25 yards
Used year to Date: 4.25 yards
Added this Week: 4.5 yards
Added Year to Date: 4.5 yards
Net Used for 2013: .25 yards

I’m not sure how accurate that added number is but I’ll show you what I got tomorrow.

Believe it or not, there are others out there that are tracking their stash.  Head on over to Judy’s Patchwork Times to see how they are doing.

To Box or Not to Box

I’ve finished all 8 of the Click-It bags for my trip to New York, well maybe finished.  I still have to decide whether to box the bottoms.

IMG_5431

Generally for a Click-It bag I don’t box them but I’m just not sure.  If I leave them squared off that means I’m done and that’s a good thing.  If I decide to box them it really won’t take that much time but it is another step.

So here they all are waiting for a decision.

The all red one’s just have been turned right side out yet.

So what do you thing?  Box or no box?

Warm, Comfy Hats

John and I are heading to New York in a few days for our annual trip to Manhattan and Brooklyn.  We usually do quite a bit of walking and sometimes it can be pretty darn cold.  I decided to make us fleece caps to keep our heads and ears warm and cozy.  They may not be the most glamorous (although they are reversible) but they should do the trick.

Baby Olivia

A few weeks ago I blogged about a quilt that Emily and I quilted so that it could be given to a friend of my daughter, Shelli.  If you missed it, you can read about it here.

The pictures back then didn’t do it justice.  It looks even better in this one with Baby Olivia laying on top of it.

And here’s another picture of Olivia and her new blankie.

I’ve Been Inspired

Pokey, over at Pokey Dot Quilting has a blog post today that really did inspire me.  Her New Years resolution is to:

"use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without"

Now, who can argue with that.

She also had this in her blog post.

UseItUpWearItOutMakeItDoOrDoWithout

I love it so much I’ve put it over on my sidebar as a little reminder throughout the year.  I’m smart enough (and know myself well enough) to not make this a New Years Resolution, rather a goal to work towards.  Unfortunately I have a few new projects/patterns planned that may require current/new fabric but I can live with that.

LOL!  As I’m writing this post I just glanced across the room and remembered that I had just purchased this, this morning.

What is it you ask?  It’s fleece to make a warm reversible hat for my trip to New York next week.  I saw a simple pattern/tutorial over at Crafty Gemini that I want to try.

Until next time………..

Getting it Done–January 2013

Judy over at Patchwork Times is hosting a new linky party for 2013.  She is asking us to list four things we want to get done for the next month on the and then report on our progress the last day of that month.  January looks like it’s going to be a fairly busy month for me I have a New York trip followed by Road to California but I’m going to give it a try.  So here we go with my four things.

  1. Quilt the background on Margie’s quilt
  2. Make 8 Click-it bags for New York
  3. Finish the border for my Great Granny quilt
  4. Make a proto type of my new bag pattern

That’s it and with any luck I can get it accomplished.

Check out what everyone else is planning for January over at Judy’s blog.
