In the beginning……………………………………. A quilt pattern in the making- Chapter 1

You never know what will trigger a new quilt pattern.  Last weekend my Two Wacky Women partner, Marilyn and I were driving back from Barstow, CA (about a two hour drive).  Marilyn announced to me “You need to design a new pattern using 5 – one yard cuts of fabric” (she can sometime be a little bossy, LOL.  And so, the journey began.  smile_omg

I thought you might like to follow me as I go through the entire process.  I’ll periodically Blog about the steps I take.

Apparently Marilyn had come across 5 – one yard cuts of fabric (Amy Butler, I think) that she bought last summer at The International Quilt Show in Long Beach, CA.  She wanted something new, simple and with fairly large pieces to showcase the fabric.  I had my notebook with me (I never leave home without it) so I started playing with the idea on the way home.  I typically use a lot of colored paper instead of fabric to play with my initial ideas and of course I didn’t have colored paper with me so Marilyn stopped at a Wal-Mart to buy me colored paper and scotch tape.  Thank you, Marilyn, I think.

After cutting and taping the rest of the way home, I came up with a plan.  Once we got home, I walked Marilyn through the steps while both of us took notes.  Marilyn was determined to start the quilt that night and in fact she did.

Here’s the first 10 blocks of her quilt.  BTW, I stole this pictures from Marilyn’s Blog.

That’s all for now, check back later for Chapter 2
