Get it Done–May, 2013

I managed to accomplish quite a few thing during the month of April but not necessarily what I listed at the beginning of the month.  Here we go with an April recap.

1.  Finish, once and for all, that *@#% mystery quilt.  Here it is sitting next to my sewing machine, ready to go under the needle.

After a lot of issues quilting this quilt it finally was finished and turned in to my guild so that it can be given to charity.

2. Now that my Mock Hidden Wells quilt top is finished.  I need to get the back pieced together and the binding ready.  This one is probably going to my friend Sue to be quilted.

The back was pieced and the guilt was delivered to Sue last week.  She’s been gone so it may be a while until I get it back.

3.  My Scrappy Trips Around the world is completed and the binding is sewn on to the front.  I need to finish the hand sewing of the binding.

Confused smileStill sitting here starring at me waiting for me to hand sew the binding down.  It will now move to the May list.

4. I’ve had this Hidden Wells Quilt cut out for a while.  My plan for April is to start sewing the strip sets together.  I probably won’t complete the top but at least I can get it further along.

Disappointed smileI had good intentions with this one but what can I say………It didn’t happen.  Another one moving to the May list.

Now on to my May “Get it Done” list.

1.  My Scrappy Trips Around the world is completed and the binding is sewn on to the front.  I need to finish the hand sewing of the binding.  And I really mean it this time.

3.  I brought another charity quilt home with me the other day that needs to be quilted.   This one was started by my friend Margie before she passed away last year.  I like to think she’ll be watching over me  (and my Brother sewing machine) as we finish this one up for her.

4.  I’d like to think I’ll get my green and pink half-square triangle quilt sewn together.

One Last Layout And A Decision

At the suggestion of one of my followers I tried one more layout, this time using the Depression Block for Quilterscashe.  Here it is spread out on my floor.

I like it but in the end, I decided on this one.

Of course Molly had to check it out.  After looking at the picture (it’s amazing what a difference a photograph makes) I discovered one block turned the wrong way.  See it up there, third from the top and on the right.  I fixed it before I labeled the rows and picked it up off the floor.

Unfortunately I’m attending a funeral today for a dear friend from guild, Caroline Finley.  Please send prayers for Caroline’s family and best friend Brenda.  They could sure use it at this very sad time.  She was a very warm, caring, loving person and will be missed by everyone that was fortunate enough to have her touch their lives.

Design Wall Monday–4/29/13

I’m still playing with half-square triangles.  Right now a few of them are on my design wall making a zigzag pattern.

This is only 36 blocks.  I have 120 of them.  I still haven’t decide which layout to use.  Here’s one……….

and this one.

I’m leaning towards the middle one but maybe make it off-center.  What do you think?  Any other layouts I should try?

Stash Report–Week 18–April 28, 2013

Still moving in the right direction.  I cut up a whole bunch of fabric for my green and pink, half-square triangle quilt and used some additional fabric for binding on my “found” East Meets West quilt. Yea!

Used this Week 7.25
Used year to Date 61.5
Added this Week 0
Added Year to Date 13.25
Net Used for 2013 -48.25

I’m starting to play with the layout of my half-square triangle quilt.  I tried this one yesterday but I really don’t like it very much so I’ll keep playing.

Another Ta-Da!

It’s amazing what you find when you start looking for UFO’s and over and under other hidden away projects.  Yesterday while looking for another UFO to quilt, I came across this one.  It was all finished except for the binding.  When I pulled it out I found extra fabric (apparently for the binding) tucked away within the folds.  So I dug around some more and found some fabric that would work for a flange and today I finished it up.

This one was made using my “East Meets West” pattern.  The only difference is it doesn’t have the outer border on it like the original pattern.  I was making this with a child in mind so decided to make it a little bit smaller than the original, but it’s still plenty big and snuggly.

This will now go into the donate pile.  I’m hopeful it will find it’s way to some young person that will love it.

Playing with Half Square Triangles

Last week I blogged about a bunch of greens and pinks that had been in my stash for a very long time and I was trying to figure out what to do with them.  (If you’re interested you can read about it here.)  As I went through and ironed each of them I realized some of them are down right ugly but I don’t think it matters with this kind of setting.

I decided to cut them into 8” squares, pair a pink and green together and make half square triangles.  So far, so good.  Here are some of them thrown up on my design wall.  I have more made and still have some waiting to be sewn together but this at least this gives me an idea of what it will look like.

Back to the sewing machine for a little bit, then my husband and I are head out to see the musical “A Chorus Line”.  I think this is the 5th time we’ve seen it.  It’s one of our very favorites.
