Design Wall Monday–May 18, 2015

This is my designs wall but it’s my granddaughter Emily’s project.  I love that she hangs out at my house, uses my stash and sews.

She’s started working on a Scrappy Trip Around the World, a free pattern on Bonnie Hunter’s blog.  She’s making this as a wedding gift for a friend of hers.  It is all scrappy off whites and beiges.  It’s hard to tell in this picture but the dark diagonal is red, a variety of reds but all reds.

I couldn’t resist turning the one block so that you can see how the reds will move throughout the quilt.

I think it’s going to be gorgeous.

I’ll be at a retreat all week and will try to post some pictures.

Have a great week everyone.

Enjoy,

Design Wall Monday–May 11, 2015

This is going to be a busy week for me.  Tomorrow night I’m speaking at Orange County Quilt Guild followed by a workshop on Wednesday and another workshop on Saturday.  Unfortunately that means I’ll miss my Orange Grove Quilt Guild meeting but should be able to make my Quilters by the Sea meeting Thursday night. Oh and I almost forgot my husband and I have tickets to see Annie Wednesday night.  Phew, I’m tired just thinking about it.

As I mentioned I will be teaching two different workshop for OCQG.  My story board is all set up for my Magical Slice and Dice workshop that will be on Wednesday.  It’s been a while since I’ve taught this but thankfully I have teaching notes to get me back in the grove.

Here’s a photo of the finished quilt.

I’ve made this many, many times using a wide variety of fabrics.  Just in case you’re interested, my pattern for Magical Slice and Dice can be purchased from my website http://www.robinquiltsetc.com .

Next Sunday I leave for a 5 night retreat with a group of quilters.  We’re headed to Big Bear which is up the mountain here in Southern California just about 1 1/2 away from home.  Should be a fun week.  I’ll try to post from there.

In the mean time, head on over to Judy’s blog to see what others are up to.

Design Wall Monday–May 4, 2015

Not exactly my design wall but a recently completed quilt.

It’s simply a panel with a few borders but I’m hoping a certain little someone will love it.

Design Wall Monday–April 27, 2015

I’ve been working on writing a tutorial for making Dresden Plate blocks.  I’ll be teaching it this summer at a Las Vegas retreat.  So I’ve been been working with lots of Dresden parts and just a few blocks.

Here’s a small quilt that I made a while back for my front door using this method.

Design Wall Monday–April 20, 2015

Well it’s not Monday it’s actually Tuesday but I meant to post this yesterday.

A couple of weeks ago I showed a panel that I purchased with the intent of using it for a One Block Wonder.  Last week I managed to get started.  These are just thrown up on my wall in no particular order but I think you can get the idea.

I actually think it’s going to work.  For me it’s a slow process, but hopefully I’ll have time to work on it off and on.

Here’s what the panel looks like.

Stitch & Flip with Mary Tabar

On Thursday I attended a workshop with Mary Tabar.  The class was fun but rather confusing at times.  I think by the end I finally got it.  Here are my four blocks.  I still need to machine applique them down but for now they are fused in place.

Today I’m packing for a four day retreat with my friendship group “The Wednesday Wacko’s”.  I’m not sure if this will be going with me but I’ll figure that out this afternoon when I pack.

Until next time . . . . . . . . . . . .

Design Wall Monday–April 6, 2015

I really have been sewing very little.  Sad smile But next week I am going on a retreat with my friendship group, The Wednesday Wackos.  I am soooooooo, looking forward to it.  These are my best friends in the entire world and I get to spend 4 straight days with them, sewing, eating and laughing.  I can hardly wait.

I’ve started to plan which projects to take with me.  I’ve been wanting to make a OBW (One Block Wonder) for a long time.  I bought fabric I while back to make it but then I saw several of them made using 6 duplicate panels instead of 6 repeats of a fabric.  I decided that’s what I want to try, layering 6 panels and cutting my hexagons from that.

I am fortunate to live near a discount fabric store, M & L.  They have quite a large selection of flat folds for $2.59 per yard.  I found this and I’m really anxious to layer it, cut it and start sewing it together.
