It’s a very exciting night here in Seal Beach, LOL! It’s been very hot and humid (at least by Southern California standards) making spending much time in my sewing room pretty uncomfortable. So tonight once it started to cool down I finished up a few more Great Granny blocks. I now have 20 made and 29 to go. Remember it’s going to be a very, very big quilt for my bed.

I haven’t always been a huge fan of Jelly Rolls but lately I’ve had several projects that are just perfect for using them. As you’ve seen, if you following along with me, I have been making Great Granny Quilt Blocks using Kaffe Fasset fabrics from a homemade jelly roll.
I am fortunate to live in Southern California and one of our local quilt shops, Flying Geese Fabric, make their own Homemade Jelly Rolls. I wanted another Kaffe Fasset roll so I begged and pleaded (LOL) and convinced my BFF Marilyn to go with me. I had to promise her we’d have lunch while we were out so she finally agreed to go.
I think we both caved in and bought three jelly rolls each.

I’m not a big fan of 30’s but it should make a really cute baby quilt (or little great granny blocks
BTW, Marilyn and I found a (new to u) Mexican restaurant and enjoyed a really nice lunch in a nice “air conditioned” place.

As you know I’ve been making Great Granny Quilt Blocks. In fact, I’m up to 10 on my design wall and have 2 more prepped waiting to be sewn together later today. Here’s my current wall.
So last night I was very pleased with myself and decided to take a break and sit and watch the Olympics. Just like a lot of you, I watch with one eye and peruse blogs with the other. As I’m relaxing and flipping through my “next” on Google Reader I come across Kim’s bitty bits & pieces blog. And, what do I see????? The cutest little Great Granny Quilt Block Pincushion you’ve ever seen. I didn’t get up immediately to make one, in fact it probably took me at least 5 whole minutes to decide I couldn’t stand it…….I just had to make one. So off I went.
It’s only 5 inches compared to the 12 inch full sized blocks. I didn’t have any crushed walnut shells last night so it isn’t stuffed yet but it sure is as cute as can be. If you’d like to make your own Great Granny Pincushion check out Kim’s tutorial here.

Over the last week, I’ve caught the Great Granny Quilt Block bug. At this time I’m thinking this is going to turn out big, very big, but for now I have 8 blocks up on my design wall.
As you can see, they all have red centers, a light ash gray background and a wide variety of Kaffee Fasstt fabrics. I’m loving the blocks as well as the process, a winning combination I do believe.

I’ve have two more blocks finished.
I’ve got two more blocks prepped but I decided I needed to have design boards to help me deal with all the pieces. I followed this tutorial from the Bee in My Bonnet blog to make a couple of cute design boards.
I made them pretty big to be able to handle the Great Granny Blocks before they are sewn together, I think next time I’ll make a few a little smaller. Now it’s back to my sewing studio to make a couple of more blocks. They are sooooooooo addicting.

As I wonder through Blogland I keep seeing all these wonderful Great Granny Blocks. What took me so long????? They are so cute and easy to make I can’t believe it’s taken me this long to join in.
This morning I decided to make today a play day and just have fun and sew in my sewing studio. And boy did I have fun. I piddled around for a while but finally decided the time had come to make a Great Granny Block. I had some strips of Kaffe Fasset fabric left over from some other project so I decided why not make a single block (just to see what it would look like). Instead of the usual white background I decided to use a light gray solid that I had in my stash. Well, as you can imagine, I couldn’t stop at just one so I made two and here they are.
I’ve decided to use red in the center of each of my blocks. For now I have to stop and do some other things but I will definitely be making more tomorrow.
