An Apron for Spring Market

As you probably know by now, I am in the process of getting ready to exhibit at Spring Market (booth 2446).   My sister, Melinda, will be going with me so we’re both going to wear aprons that are the same but different.   Here are the fabrics we are each using .

I’m not sure about the rick rack, we’ll see.

Melinda is using a pattern that she has used before and I’m going to make a very old fashioned apron.  Here is the pattern I have.  As you can see it was hand drawn on plain brown paper.

My Mother had a friend “Esther” who made lots and lots of aprons, using this pattern.  I loved the simplicity of it so my Mother hand traced this from Esther’s original.  Both my Mother and Esther passed away many years ago but I still see my Mother’s handwriting on this.  Here’s one of my “original” aprons made by Esther herself.

I plan to update it just a little bit.  I’ll probably make it longer and add another pocket.  I’m thinking about making a yoke at the top using the polka dot fabric and adding the rick rack somewhere.  But no matter what changes I make it will still be known as “Esther’s Apron”.

Enjoy,

  1. This apron is going to be beautiful. And I love that you can see your mom's writing on the pattern. Very special.

  2. I LOVE this. I may try to make one similar. My grandmother always wore an apron. If company was walking throught the door, my nana would be undoing the apron!

  3. I need to make a copy of the pattern when I am out there next month. I still have several of Esther's aprons and I do wear them - when I remember.
