Another Great Day in Utah

This morning started off bright and sunny.  Even the local news said we would have nice warm weather.  Well someone didn’t tell the weather god’s because this afternoon turn dark and ominous, accented by loud thunder that could be heard inside the convention center.  By 6:00, at the close of the show, it was down right cold and windy outside.  But all that didn’t dampen our spirits.   We headed to the Bloggers Quilt Market Meetup.   There was at least a gazillion bloggers there.  We had a chance to chat and visit with many of them.  Here’s the goodie bag that we received.

After we left the get-to-gather we headed to P.F. Chang’s for dinner, unfortunately it was packed, with a very long wait.  We were tired so instead we headed to Squatters Pubs and Beers.   We had a great meal and a nice glass of wine.  Then back to the hotel and time to relax.

I want to share one more picture with you.

This is Hoodie, a designer for Timeless Treasures.  Isn’t she just the cutest thing ever and look at her wonderful fabric.  I’d love to get my hands on some of it.  Can you see the great watermelon fabric that she made her purse out of.   I love it.

Until tomorrow…….I’m so tired right now, I can’t think straight.

Enjoy,

What’s Up with Blogger?????

Hopefully we’re back on track.  I wasn’t able to post to my blog yesterday due to the problem, but I’m all caught up now.

If you missed it, Kim was the winner of my 500th blog post give-away.  I had fun shopping for her.  Kim please send me an email here so that I know where to send your prize when I return home.

Yesterday after Melinda and I finished setting up and visiting the local Walmart (of course) we decided to visit one of Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive ins, and Dives.  It was the Red Iguana located here in Salt Lake City.  the Red Iguana is known for having ten different Mole sauces.  One of the items was enchilada filled with carnitas and covered with one of their Mole sauces.  Melinda and I each ordered the same thing.  the waitress told us that it was little spicy and we both replied no problem.  Melinda I grew up with a Mexican father so we “know spicy”.  No problem, we said.  Wellllllll!!!!  Apparently we don’t know what a little spicy is.  It was the hottest (spicy hot) that I have ever had, but it was delicious.  Both of us set there eating our enchiladas with runny noses and watery eyes.  What can I say, WE LOVED IT!!!!

The entire restaurant was delightfully decorated with bright colors and oil cloth tablecloths on all the tables.  But, here is the picture you have to see, the front door.   Here is the inside of the door.

IMG_3357

And, here is the outside of the door.

IMG_3360I’d love to have the nerve to cover my front door like this but I think my neighbors might frown on it.

Today was really fun.  We got to see a lot of old friends and meet a lot of new friends.  It seems to me that this year, Spring Market is bigger than ever.   We followed up the long day with a wonderful dinner that Moda hosted.  Thank you, Moda.

Now, we’re back in our room, tired but happy, drinking wine and watching TV.  It starts all over, bright and early tomorrow.

Before, After and The Winner Is………..

Sorry for the delay in posting, this was suppose to publish on 5/12/11………Blogger was having a bad day and was in read only, BOO HOO!

When we arrived yesterday,we drove to the convention center and literally dump everything in a pile in my booth.  Thank goodness it’s right next to one of the loading docks, so it was really easy.  So here’s the before.

IMG_3352

Today we headed over after breakfast, hung the quilts and set everything up.  I think it came out really cute.

IMG_3361

The door to the loading dock was wide open and it faces west so it was hard to get a good picture with the bright sun shine.  But didn’t it turn out cute?  I’ll try to take a better picture tomorrow.

And now for the winner.   I received 27 comments.  A big thank you to each of you but I’m afraid there can only be one winner.

500 posts

And the winner is:

Congratulations of your 500th blog post and having your block in Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks. Sample Spree sounds like a hoot. Pick something pretty. Florals and novelties are my favorites.

Congratulations Kim.  I had fun shopping for you.

Yippee!!!! 500th Post and Giveaway

Today celebrates by 500th post so what better way to celebrate than to have a giveaway.  But what should I give?  Well I’ve thought and thought and I think I’ve come up with the perfect thing.   So here’s how it’s going to work…………….

As you probably know I am on my way to Salt Lake City where I’ll be setting up a booth to promote my pattern business.  But what you may not know is that one of the most exciting things to do at Quilt Market is to attend Sample Spree.  It’s held the night before the show opens (in this case tomorrow, Thursday 5/12/11 at 8:00 pm).  It is an absolute mad house but really, really fun.  I’ve been to several and always come away with some real treasures like fat quarter bundles, jelly rolls, layer cakes, etc.   Thank goodness I’m exhibiting at the show but  not vending at sample spree so once again I get to shop.  This time, if you win the giveaway, I will shop for you.   Doesn’t that sound like fun?  So leave me a  comment letting me know what kind of fabric you love, 30’s, brights, geometrics, civil war, you get the idea.

Before I leave for Sample Spree tomorrow night, I will draw a winner and I will do my best to shop with you in mind.  And what the heck, while I’m there I’ll probably do a little shopping for me too.

Here’s a few picture I borrowed from Robert Kaufman.  These were taken at Sample Spree last October in Houston.  Tomorrow night this will be Melinda and me.

On the Road to Salt Lake City

This morning we got the car packed.  Did I mention I am a very good packer and can stuff a lot of things in a vehicle.  Check it out.

A Side View

We made it as far as Victorville and made our first “food” stop.

IMG_3340

YUM!

Back on the road and we made it as far as Baker for a stop at The Mad Greek.  The Mad Greek was featured on Diner’s, Drive-in’s and Dive’s.

I would have taken a picture of the outside but the sign was missing.  We didn’t eat, we just drank.  Melinda had a vanilla shake and I had a vanilla malt.  Then back on the road.

IMG_3345

We made it as far as Cedar City, UT.  What is that white stuff I see out our hotel room window?  I’m a Southern California girl so this just seems wrong to me.  Here look a little further south.

IMG_3346

More of that funny white stuff.  Oh well, we’re in for the night, we have a glass of wine so we’re in good shape.  Tomorrow it’s back in the car for the rest of the drive to Salt Lake City.  (BTW, we’ve found a few quilt shop to visit along the way.  Just what we need to do our our way to a huge wholesale show. LOL!)

Design Wall Monday–5/9/11

Believe it or not the good news is, there is absolutely nothing on my design wall today.  But I’m ready for Spring Quilt Market.   Here’s what I’ve been doing most of the day.

IMG_3336

Organizing, collating, stapling and stuffing patterns.  Can you believe it?  I do it while sitting on the floor.  And, the other good news is, not only can I get down on the floor, I can still get back up!!!!

Tomorrow morning we pack the car and my sister and I start our road trip to Salt Lake City.

I am pleased to announce the winners of the two Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, Vol. 3 magazines that I told you about on Friday during the 100 Blocks Blog Tour.

Thank you to everyone for participating.  I hope you each had an opportunity to visit all the wonderful designer’s and their blogs.  It certainly was inspiring.  As a reminder, for those of you that didn’t win, I assure you the magazine is wonderful and will be available to purchase on May 10, 2011.  I hope you check it out.  I know you won’t be sorry.

The first winner was drawn from everyone that left a comment on my Friday Blog post.  This is the magazine that is being provided by Quiltmaker and will be mailed directly to the winner from them.

1st winner

Number 124 is Debgiro.  Congratulations Deb.  Please email me your full name and home address so that I can forward it on to Quiltmaker.

The second winner comes from the people that let me know that they are a follower of my Blog.  I big thank you to each and every one of you.

Winner 2

Number 23 is Julie Kaye of KS.  Congratulations Julie.  Please email me your full name and home address and I will mail a copy of the magazine directly to you.

As a side note. . . .  I finished all my sewing for Spring Market and now just have to finish up some paperwork tomorrow.  My sister Melinda arrives from Atlanta tomorrow night and we start our long drive Tuesday morning.  We should make it to Salt Lake City of Wednesday afternoon.   It’s been a lot of work but I know we’re going to have a great time.  We’ll be in booth 2446, so if you’re lucky enough to be attending Spring Market, please stop by and say hello.
