Square in a Square

Yesterday my guild had a workshop teaching the square in a square method using Jody Barrow’s ruler.  I need another project like I need a hole in my head but what the heck.  I’ve had the ruler for a couple of years and have never gotten around to reading the book so this was a chance to play.

Knowing perfectly well I wasn’t going to want to make a quilt, a small wall hanging or in my case a pillow would do the trick.  I was able to get the front of the pillow finished.  Now all I have to do is quilt it and turn it into a pillow sham before the 4th of July.

UFO Challenge–Competed

It took me until the very last minute, but my guild UFO challenge for April is completed.

IMG_3236

This was started last July and is called 9-Patch Surprise.  It was taught by my sister Melinda at a Las Vegas workshop that we attend every year.   In order to be considered complete, the quilt must be quilted, bond and must have a label (this is foreign to me) attached.  Mission accomplished, including the label.

Now it’s time to move on to the next thing.

Trunk Show Thursday–April 14, 2011

Something a little different this week.

IMG_3231

Quite a few years ago I decided that I wanted to make a crazy quilt.  It didn’t take me long to realize I must be crazy to think I would make an entire quilt with all that detail.  But, I did have fun making one block that turned in to a tote bag.  Unfortunately it’s too pretty to use so it only comes out for trunk shows.

Of course I had to embroider a cat.

And also I had to embroider by initial on it (it’s an R even if you can’t read it).

Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks - Volume 3

Yippee, Yippee,Yip!!!!! I’m in the magazine.  OK, not me exactly but you get the idea.

I recently received an email from the folks at Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks indicating that the new issue is at the printers now.  I should have a copy by the end of the month and it will hit the newsstands sometime in early May.  I am very excited to be included in Vol. 3.   I’ve been told that not only is my block in the magazine but they also asked for my quilt (that was made from the block) be send to them so that it could be photographed and included in the magazine.  (Keeping my fingers crossed.)

As soon as I’m able, I will post a picture of the block and the quilt.

UFO Challenge

Nothing like waiting until the last minute.  My guild UFO challenge is due Thursday night.  I’ve been so busy working on things for Spring Market that I’m just now getting back to working on my UFO.  It has to be finished, which means it has to be quilted, the minding has to be on and the label sewn in place.  I think I’ll make it but I still have a ways to go.

The quilting is almost finished.

The binding will be scrappy and is cut and ready to sew together.

The label is ready to sew in place.

Sure hope I make it.  Flirt male Wish me luck.

Design Wall Monday–4/11/11

It’s My Birthday – Yea!!!!!! – Happy Birthday to Me!

I’ve been busy getting ready for Spring Market.  (I’ll be in booth 2446, if you’ll be in Salt Lake City.)  Next on the to-do list is completeing 2  Letty’s Bag samples.  One will be in my booth and the other one will be in the Lizzy B Cre8ive booth.   They were kind enough to provide me with some of their fabric for both the bags.

The fabric in front is laminated cotton.    This will be the second time that I’ve used laminated cotton.  Remember this one?

IMG_3227

It was made with Tula Pink fabric.

I’m anxious to get started but since it’s my birthday, I’m going to spend part of the day having lunch with Marilyn.

To see what others have on their design walls, check out Judy’s Patchwork Times Blog.
