When leaving an opening to turn, instead of starting and stopping on the fabric, start on the edge, sew to your seam line and then pivot and turn to finish sewing around. When you reach the turning point, pivot and sew to the edge. That way when you go to close the bottom, you will have a perfect seam to sew. Now press it and sew on as you desire. No need to try to turn under edges.
